Law school, and life

I'm so tired. So tired of being in Law School, of the endless working, and studying, and worrying.

And now as I am typing this, I should be doing my contract tutorial, reading my crim cases, doing the crim memo, doing LAWR research, reading misrepresentation and doing ILT readings.

Stacks and stacks of work to do. And every week is just an endless race to finish what I have to do, to keep up with lectures, tutorials, and seminars.

My grades for sem 1 weren't that good, and I was shocked to get those grades. It just reflects how highly I think of myself. I never thought I'd be average. Average. That's such an ugly word. Something I never associated myself with.

And there, I've said it, shown it to the world, I'm such an arrogant person.

Who am I to think that I am smarter than everyone? Who am I to think that others are less intelligent than me? I've let myself get caught up in my own success in the past, and I've gotten egotistical and big-headed.

This is a timely reminder for me to remember that I am not that different from everyone.

Past the initial shock, I am actually thankful. I'm thankful that God has shown me this 'failure' at this time, to remind me to keep a humble heart. That's what I've been trying to do throughout my JC life, why have I lost it? Now, I tend to feel insulted whenever people doubt my ability in the least. Where has that come from? I'm glad God has given me this opportunity to keep my arrogant mind in check.

I need to relearn to be humble, need to stop being arrogant, and need to be more sensitive to the needs of others.

And beyond that, I have to learn to keep the fire going, to remind myself why it is that I wanted to come to law school. To stop feeling intimidated and jaded by life, to remind myself that grades are not everything in life.

Of random thoughts.

The past month has given me more HTHTs with my various groups of friends than I've had with my friends for the past one year.

As I'm listening to what my friends say, it strikes me hard that we've all grown up. At this age, we're all thinking about life - relationships, degrees, work, families, marriage, children. Of course, different people think about each aspect to a different degree.

But one bad thing is the negativity I hear about relationships. So many people around me end up breaking up because they're just 'not ready for a relationship'. Others complain about how there is just 'no spark'.

But, how do you know when you're ever ready? How do you create the spark? How do you know when you meet Mr Right?

The truth is, you never know.

To me, relationships are about taking the plunge, about making things work. And that's the thing I see which other people lack. I do not confess to be an expert on such things, nor do I think that I'm having the perfect relationship now, but I just think that many a times, people simply do not give their relationship a chance.

When a problem comes up, they simply say, 'this is not right', and run away from it. It just cultivates a habit doesn't it, and it cultivates the cynicism in them.

Why not give the relationship a chance? Why not try to talk things through? Isn't a relationship about compromise? About commitment?

Maybe I was just lucky to have found someone who's willing to put in as much as I do. But whatever it is, just don't lose hope. And before you blame the other party, examine yourself. Think about what you can do to make things better before you start thinking 'hey, this is not working'.

**

I really must thank God for the life and friends that he's given me currently. He's given me a wonderful person to share my life with, and amazing friends which I know I can keep for a long time. He's also strengthened the bonds within my family, I can see how we treasure each other so much more now.

And I must say, God really works in amazing ways. And he always answers my prayers. He's blessed me with so much, and it's so comforting to know that I have Him to run to whenever I worry, and whenever I have any problems. Because I know that everything is in His plan, and that he'll make things right in the end.

I just have to trust in Him and believe that I will make it out eventually.

I have always been fearful of letting my family know about my relationship with God. But I think it's time for me to start to let them know about Him. My walk with God makes up such a big part of me, and I need to start embracing this, as well as letting my family know that this is part of who I am.

Hello Again.

I'm back here! After more than a year.

I wanted to come back here because I was just so happy. So happy after the v11 chalet yesterday. I wanted to write down how I feel, because I know this will be a treasured memory of mine for years to come.

Every v11 chalet, I have loads of fun and add one more fantastic memory to my stash of v11 memories. And I do love v11 so, it's the best class I've ever been in. The people there mean so much to me. They're friends that I'd want to keep for the rest of my life. Hopefully I'd get to know their spouses, attend their weddings, play with their kids, grandkids... etc and etc

And I can see that happening for a lot of these people, Althea, Alicea, Pu En, Kelvin, Yiliang, Jing...

I love jamming. Sometimes I forget how much I love singing, but whenever I sing, I feel that happiness creeping over me. That sense of contentment. I don't ever want to stop singing, even though yeah I don't think I sound that good sometimes. But it's okay, I still love singing all the same.

And the jamming session yesterday was awesome. With JT on the guitar, althea and alicea to harmonize with me. How great was that!

I just feel so happy. So happy. Unexplainable happiness, and this happiness comes from seeing all my beloved old friends.

**

So much on my mind these days. The past year has been one full of ups and downs. Reading through all my past blogposts bring back waves and waves of nostalgia. All the past memories which I held so dear to my heart but have forgotten about.

I shan't forget this place anymore. I've been meaning to delete it for ages but couldn't bear to because I wanted to be able to read this for years to come.

Anyway, nobody reads this blog anymore :) So I can actually write more without worrying about others reading it.

**

Note to self,

I have to stop worrying about others judging me. Because afterall, the success will be mine to achieve, and the friends will be mine to keep.

Lethargy.

I'm tired.

So tired of the incessent bitching, gossiping and rumors flying about.
Why can't people just try to be nicer? Keep their tongues in check and try to understand things from other's viewpoints?

Is that really so difficult to achieve?

If you have so much to complain about, why don't you come up with solutions for the problems you identify?

The world would be a better place without all the bitching and gossiping seriously.

I wish I could get detached from all these.

I'm just glad I have my pillar of support to lean on. The easiest way out will be to just close one eye, close one ear, pretend I don't see or hear anything wouldn't it?

Be strong May, you can get through this.

Fall.

You tried, and you gave up.
But have you forgotten that I was trying too? That I was trying my best to step out and to embrace the world you live in. How easy to get lost in your own world and your own selfish gains - that applies to me too. As I am typing this, am I not being selfish? I know you live in guilt all day, that you hate this fear and yet here I am berating you. But, am I not trying too? Have you thought about how much it takes for me to even open myself up? To take that step forward, to envision the change in my life.

You live by your values, and I am trying my best to conform to them. All I am asking for is a little time. But no, you had to take it away.

Introspection

Looking at the pictures from the Year Zero's (Year One's) outing reminded me of my very own Year Zero outings one year ago too. Haha I feel quite envious of them, cos that period was one of the best with this Year One (now Year Two) batch. It's all so different now, and when school starts for them, I'm sure it'll be different too. Of course, I love the bunch of people I'm close to now a whole lot and of course I enjoy all the various birthday outings and stuff that we've had :) Haha, really glad we came to be close over the past year. Still, those Year Zero days.. I miss!

And when I looked at the pictures that the Year Zeros took for caroling, I realised I didnt take with ANY of them. Haha feel so bad now cos I'm wondering if I've been a bad senior. And all those times when Bryan they all asked me out, I didn't bother to go too (okay not didn't bother, but I just wasn't free everytime). I don't even talk to any of them online! Haha, I used to think that I didn't want to get too close for the juniors cause it'll only be for 6 months, but now that I think of it, is it really possible for me to live in my Year Two world for the next 6 months? Probably not. So I should try to be more friendly and talk more to the juniors eh. They're all really nice people anyway, I like :) But it's just that, ah, I'm not good at getting close to people haha, (actually, who is?), but still, I have this.. phobia. HAHA. Also, the Year Zeros (Year Ones) will probably be scared of me since I'll be the fierce secretary who chases down everyone for being late. Ah. That's kind of sad hahaha. Maybe I should just confine myself to my Year Two world afterall.

Or I could try to be less fierce? But I think with my temper, and my jobscope, that's hard to achieve.

Still, I'm looking forward to school reopening cos I've missed my Year Ones (Year Twos) dearly! I've missed S34 too! And all those other people that I didn't get to see much for the whole of this holidays.

It's gonna be a shiong year but I bet it'd be fufilling too! Can't wait till choir starts cos there's so many things coming up, Year Ones coming in, New Sound, Choir camp, Ten Noms etc! :D

Muaha I'm finally a senior!

Two Oh Oh Nine

The first week of 2009 has been a blast! Went for so many outings and stuff, and I had great fun catching up with so many different people. :)

Every year, The Usual People gather and meet at someone's house to countdown for the New Year and to celebrate Wee Baba's birthday :) This year, we went to Wan Ting's house and had a BBQ :) It was pretty fun camwhoring with all of them haha, and it was nice meeting all the boyfriends and stuff HAHA. Everyone's all grown up now, with their own boyfriends and girlfriends etc haha, in a year's time, there will probably be more people joining us haha. Yay love the Usual People and I really hope our friendship will last long:) 20102010, 20:10! Can't wait for that date hahaha.

TUP! With ShuWei's bf haha.

On the first day of 2009 (the next day), the Usual People went for Wee Baba's birthday party (aka 19 Years of Cuteness!). The food was good haha and Yuting's mum was pretty funny hehe. Can totally picture Yuting like that next time when she's a mother herself :) Okay, so we had fun at the NUSS karaoke room singing our heads off and stuffing our faces with food (oops I think only Jerrold did that HEHE). Yep, went out to walk walk for a while after the party ended and then we went home.
It's been the 3rd year that I've started each new year with TUP :) Haha hope this will become a tradition for many more years to come :) Hehe, love these people!

Went for 2B outing at night for dinner the next day. That was the first 2B outing we had in 3 years! Haha. I hadn't wanted to go for it initially, but since Ang Mian Vivian Shun Jie and Winki were all going, I decided I should go too. I didn't go for dinner at Spageddies since it was simplyyyy tooo exxx! So, met them later and went to Taka basement to have some light finger food for dinner. Shun Jie was nice enough to treat me to most of my food though :) Yep everyone's looks the same actually haha, with minor changes here and there. I had great fun catching up with my dear friends haha and of course, fun suaning Wendy =P HAHA. After Taka, we went to Iskanda (?) Park to camwhore, haha and we took many many many pictures! Yay hope to meet them again one more time before the school term starts :) Love these people!

06v11 Chalet from 5th to 6th January. It was great going for the chalet. Finally got to see my beloved v11 after such a long time :) All the familiar faces.. somehow, it's so comfortable being around them. It doesn't even feel awkward when nobody talks, it's just a comfortable silence :)

Some highlights were the family catching up and gossiping session in one of the rooms. It was great:) it's been so long since i've talked to the two of them. It felt really nice to just be there with them, love them so much hehe.

Dinner under the stars was fun :) Sat with Cephas, Kelvin, JT, Yi Liang and Pu En at the bench under the stars cos the rest were all busy watching Little Nyonya and Elroy and Esmond were tending the fire hehe. It was fun dinnering with them cos they were being ultra funny, esp with people like JT and Cephas haha.

The guitar sessions were fun too. Went into one of the rooms after dinner and saw Kelvin and JT playing the guitars (Esmond, Yi Liang and JT all brought guitars). I decided to join them and we had a guitar sing-along session hehe. I love times like these, where we just sit there and spam songs and I get to sing-along with them hehe :)

The few of us who stayed over (Althea, Alicea, Yi Ling, Elroy, Esmond, Ian, Guo Wei, Kelvin, Cephas, JT) went out for Macs after that cos a few of us were hungry. Wow the walk was pretty long, but the cool air made it worth it :) Spent a long time at Macs too cos I was gossiping with mostly Cephas and Althea about the DHS people and how they all are now.

Chatted with Kelvin while waiting for Alicea to finish bathing before we watched Get Smart. It was nice catching up :) Most people went to sleep, leaving only Kelvin Alicea Esmond Elroy and I to watch Get Smart. Haha that show is soooo stupid and lame but it was funny. The guys were pretty nice to set up make shift cushions/sofas with some innovative usage of their legs and the pillows so it was pretty comfortable for Alicea and I who were sitting in the middle of the bed since the bed wasn't big enough to allow all of us to lean back haha.
Mahjonged and bridged while the sun was rising with Esmond, Elroy and Kelvin. We were all kind of blur without sleep, haha the guys were laughing at me and my bimbo moments without sleep. As Guowei puts it, 'Oh my, not sleeping exposes your bimboness May.' After breakfast, we decided to watch SAW III after persuading all of the others. Haha that show is so gory and disgusting, and everyone of us who were watching were basically covering our eyes and not watching it haha. But it was pretty cool looking at everyone's expression of horror hehe.

Well although it wasn't exactly all that exciting during the chalet, it felt good to just catch up with some of my favourite people :) Yes, and we had our fair share of laughter so yep I'm pretty happy with how the chalet turned out. Though not many people came, I still had fun, so I really want to thank everyone who bothered to turn up for the chalet. Let's hope that we'll still be able to keep in touch alright:)

After the chalet, I went home to sleep for maybe 5 hours and then set off again to Isabelle's house for the Steamboat-to-send-Wayne-off-to-the-Army. Yay it was nice seeing everyone again, almost full attendance this time, without Nono and Alena. It was a great steamboat! The food was fantastic, special mention esp to the prawn and the beef and the meatballs hahaha. Dinner itself was great with all the spastic people there being crazy and sharing the stupid jokes hahaha. Isabelle's parents were really really nice too:) Hope we didn't piss them off to much cos we were all late and we kinda screwed up the steamboat for them :(

Yep, played polar bear after that. Haha it was spastic, esp the way some people tried to defend themselves. Haha, gosh I think I'm really gonna miss these people. Wonder when the next time I see them will be :(
Ah sad, no pics for the Chalet and Steamboat yet :(
So there, that's my first week of 2009. It was a great start to the year, and I really hope this year will be a good one. So many things to work towards, what with SYF, Austria, and A Levels. I'll be strong this year and do my best for everything.

Resolutions:
1. More self discipline (ie finish all tutorials even when I'm very very tired, keep my eyes more open even when I'm falling asleep for lectures etc.)
2. Be more open minded and less judgemental (Be it people wise, spiritually or when it comes to work)
3. Practice maths everyday since it is my weakest subject (at least 3 questions everyday)
4. Lead the choir well (be more firm and less fierce esp)
5. Improve my singing and don't give up on myself no matter how demoralised i get
6. Work hard and push the choir even when the going gets tough, we can do it!
7. Show more care and concern for my friends and family, to always be there to help when I can
8. Treat you well :)
On another note, sometimes choosing the right way to go isn't exactly that easy when your heart is telling you to go the other way. Still, it's mind over matter for me. Let's hope that this is just a passing phase and that everything will go back to normal :)

So Long, Farewell.

Farewell 2008 was great :)

All the preparation, endless meetings, late night chionging and getting stressed was worth it. Though the turn out wasn't that good for the yeartwos, it doesn't matter cos most of them said they had fun at the party :) Heh. Kudos esp to Jia Sheng who chionged out the video and sacrificed his sleep for a few nights consecutively. We are proud of you :)

Anw, we all had a good time planning and getting ready for this party haha. I love my EXCO :) After this half a year, I realised that our EXCO wouldn't be so unique without each and everyone of us. Haha, I feel that we work together really well, and we have fun at the same time. Thank you my EXCO :) I felt so proud of us as we put together the whole farewell party, esp during the time when we were decorating the room and pushing ourselves on even when we were all so tired and didn't get enough sleep. Haha. Yay :) Let's work hard and jiayou for the next 6mths! It'll be tiring, but rewarding at the same time, yay yay jiayou:)

The EXCO getting ready before the party :)

Be good or we CANE you ah!
Hehe, don't worry, we're actually very nice :)
So, Farewell 2008 was filled with camwhoring and laughter haha, I think the theme was so cool cos it's really the only time when everyone goes all out to look ugly and toot and geeky :) Hehe. I'm sorry to the year twos kay, sorry for not giving out notes haha. I didn't have time to make and write the notes, and so I only wrote for the sops. I figured that the notes don't matter much anyway, because they are just customary, we'll still see each other again, so there isn't much of a need for a 'farewell note' right? Heh.

My dears :) BUT GUYS, NO BULLYING!

Senior + Junior EXCO. Notice our matching ties and badges? :D

Special thanks to the McMuggers, for being there when I needed someone the most :) And also, most esp to Isabelle, my best (and only) choir senior for 3 years. You've been a great source of strength for me, thank you for everything. I Love You :)

**
I just realised that so many people read my blog for gossips. Eeyer. Go away if you're just reading for info about scandals. Rah. I've had enough of scandals already alright.

**

Well as the year draws to a close, it's time to reflect on the past year, and to think of what I can do to improve myself, and correct any mistakes made in the past. It's been a year of ups and downs, of successes and failures, and of friendships lost and found. This has probably been the most eventful year of my 17 years. And I have learnt much from everything that has happened.

10 nom period taught me determination and faith, to never give up even when you are unsure of the future. Wales taught me be strong, and to learn to get back on our feet after a fall. Promos taught me mental resilience, to keep going even when you feel like just throwing it in and giving up. This xmas season, I've learnt to be more understanding, and to learn to compromise. And throughout the year, I've learnt to be more tolerant, to be less self-centered and to be more compassionate to the people around me, and most importantly, to let go and move on, and to forgive and forget.

I hope I've become a better person over the year. Of course, there's much to work on and I hope I will continue to better myself, and most importantly, to show more care and concern to my friends and family around me :) Okay this is such a sappy post, how unlike me.

New year resolutions coming up next I guess, shall take the time to really think about what I want to achieve for the coming year. There, I hope this has satisfied your cravings for an update hahaha.

So many things coming up next, New Year countdown with Year3s, 19 Years of Cuteness, 06v11 class chalet etc. Haha, exciting :) oh but that leaves me less time to complete my homework too :S haha. Okay that's all ciao people!
